August 2018 Hero of the Month:
Nevada State Bank
Nevada State Bank strives to increase financial literacy throughout the state of Nevada and has focused its support on Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada and Junior Achievement of the Northern Nevada to help accomplish this goal. Junior Achievement provides hands-on experiential programs that teach children in Nevada the key concepts of financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship by providing learning resources and support.
Annually, Nevada State Bank donates over $50,000 to Junior Achievement chapters through events and fundraisers for the organization. In March, the northern Nevada team raised over $7,000 at the “Bowl-a-thon” and last fall the southern Nevada colleagues raised nearly $33,000 at their “Boo-a-thon” bowling event. During the celebration of its new branch at Downtown Summerlin in Las Vegas, the bank presented a $10,000 “big check” to Junior Achievement to further its good work in the community.
In addition to financial donations, the bank’s employees donate hours of their time to Junior Achievement. Employees volunteer to teach classes and help students understand the importance of finances and financial literacy in Southern and Northern Nevada communities. Collectively, Nevada State Bank’s employees have volunteered hundreds of hours and look forward to continuing giving back!
